Minnesota’s Hot Temperatures Are Dangerous For Your Dog’s Paws

I love sitting outside on a hot day in Minnesota and letting the sun hit my face.  On the 90+ degree days, being outside in Minnesota is almost like sitting in a sauna...with mosquitos. I love to bring my dog outside with me too but I was reminded how dangerous our asphalt driveways and roads are for dogs when I walked on my driveway barefoot yesterday.

How hot is too hot for a dog's paws?  I did a little research and found some great info from iloveveterinary.com.  One tip that they had was "press your hand against the pavement for 7-8 seconds.  If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them!".

As far as how hot the pavement truly is, the numbers that they shared on their website were:

• When the air temp is 77 degrees Fahrenheit, the asphalt is 125 degrees Fahrenheit
• When the air temp is 86 degrees Fahrenheit, the asphalt is 135 degrees Fahrenheit
• When the air temp is 87 degrees Fahrenheit, the asphalt is 143 degrees Fahrenheit
