The Minnesota Wildcat Sanctuary up in Sandstone, Minnesota just welcomed several new big cats to their sanctuary from the infamous Tiger King Park in Oklahoma. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service seized a total of 69 big cats from the park last week. The Minnesota Wildcat Sanctuary is now home to some of those big cats.

Why Were the Big Cats Seized from Tiger King Park?

According to the Wildcat Sanctuary Facebook page, since December of 2020 authorities have conducted three inspections of the animals at Tiger King Park. The inspections revealed that the owners were not providing "the big cats with adequate veterinary care, nutrition and shelter." That lead to the large-scale rescue effort of 69 big cats. The big cats rescued include lions, tigers, lion-tiger hybrids, and a panther.

Where Did All of the Rescued Big Cats Go?

The Minnesota Wildcat Sanctuary took in several of the big cats but they did not say on their Facebook page just how many they took in. The other places that the remaining big cats went are all "accredited sanctuaries in the U.S."

Founder and Executive Director of The Wildcat Sanctuary, Tammy Thies, said that she is "'very relieved that these big cats will receive the care and nutrition they desperately need and deserve.'”

The Wildcat Sanctuary is asking for donations to help pay for the care these big cats need. If you're interested and able, you can donate via their website, HERE.
