Taylor Rogers Named To First All-Star Game

Taylor Rogers has been one of the lone bright spots in the Twins bullpen in the first half of the season, and after a couple of players were deemed 'inactive' Rogers and one other player got the call to head to Coors Field to join the AL team. It is his first career All-Star selection.

The good part for Rogers? He was planning on being with his family in Denver anyway so he was ready to go once he got the call, according to Dan Hayes of The Athletic.

So it was a very short ride for Rogers to make it to Coors Field, and he was even there for the later rounds of the Home Run Derby, talking it up with the Twins' other All-Star, Nelson Cruz.

Rogers Has Been Lone Bright Spot In Twins Bullpen

While Rogers did give up a Grand Slam in his final outing before the All-Star Break, he has been very good, pitching in nearly every big spot for the Twins in the late innings. Rogers has a 3.35 ERA, with a 12.9 strikeout per 9 innings, which would be a career-high if the season ended today. Rogers also has 8 saves, which is second on the team.

While it has been a first-half to forget for the Minnesota Twins, both Nelson Cruz and Taylor Rogers have had All-Star-worthy first halves of the season and deserve the recognition to participate in the game.

The Twins return to action on Friday with the doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers. You can catch Twins Baseball all season long on 103.1 KFIL and on News-Talk 1340 KROC-AM and 96.9 FM.
