A news release says preliminary information gathered by investigators indicates the security officer heard a woman screaming for help and found the 62-year-old man trying to stab her with a knife. The police report says the security officer ordered the man to drop the knife and fired his gun when he failed to comply with the order.

Brooklyn Park Police say the security officer is an employee of 10-Code Security and was assigned to the apartment complex. The man who is fatally shot and the woman were known to each other and were involved in a domestic relationship.
