Minnesota Salon Offering Free Services to Health Care Workers
A Minnesota salon called Urban Village SalonSpa is offering free services to health care workers. Urban Village is located in St. Paul. They wanted to offer these services for free as a way to give back to health care workers in the area.
Co-owner, Bee Peterson, spoke with KARE 11 about the decision to offer these free services. She said the idea came about after they opened, which was right before the pandemic began. Urban Village opened March 1st, 2020 and almost as soon as they opened they had to close due to COVID.
Bee told KARE 11, "'Health care workers ... are taking care of everybody in this community and we just thought that would be a great way to give back. To offer those people who are taking care of us, a service to take care of them.'"
One health care worker was in the salon when KARE 11 was there. Her name is Kyla Johnson and she seemed to be really enjoying having this time for herself. She explained to KARE 11, "'It's hard to differentiate yourself, from working as a health care worker and then having time for yourself'". I can imagine this is especially difficult during COVID. Kyla said even on her days off she has trouble sleeping.
Hopefully this opportunity for health care workers to get free services at Urban Village will give them some much needed down time and TLC.
