Minnesota Ranks 17th In Reducing DUI Deaths

A new study from Siegfried and Jensen ranked all U.S States based on the number of DUI crashes per 100,000 drivers from 2004-2018, and Minnesota ranked 17th in reducing DUI deaths in that timeframe, according to the study from Siegfried & Jensen.

According to the study, having the strictest and toughest policies on DUIs doesn't guarantee having the highest drop in DUI fatalities in the U.S. Minnesota, who according to the study has the strictest DUI laws in the country, ranked just 17th on the list, not getting into the Top 10.

Minnesota had a drop of 39.3%, going from a DUI rate of 5.1 in 2004 to a DUI rate of 3.1 in 2018. Tennesse topped all states with a drop of 57.1% going from a DUI rate of 10.3 in 2004 to a DUI rate of 4.4 in 2018.

The study shows that nearly every state saw a drop in DUI fatalities rates from 2004-2018, except for Connecticut, who increased by 7.1%.

This study serves as a good reminder that many counties in Minnesota now have Uber or Lyft available if you need a ride home after a night on the town, or don't be afraid to call a family member or friend. Most people are willing to get out of bed to be sure you make it home safe and sound.
