Because of the coronavirus pandemic making birthing more stressful, and the average delivery costing over $10,000, Wallethub released its report of the best states to have a baby in.
Minnesota ranked as the 2nd best state you have a baby after Wallethub compared all 50 states and Washington D.C in 32 different key categories including cost, health care accessibility and baby-friendliness. The data set ranges from hospital conventional-delivery charges to annual average infant-care costs to pediatricians per capita.
Here is where Minnesota stood in different categories:
21st – Hospital Cesarean-Delivery Charges
1st - Family-friendliness rank
18th – Hospital Conventional-Delivery Charges
29th – Avg. Annual Cost of Early Child Care
13th – Infant Mortality Rate
7th – Rate of Low Birth-Weight
6th – Midwives & OB-GYNs per Capita
6th – Pediatricians & Family Doctors per Capita
16th – Parental-Leave Policy Score
22nd – WalletHub “States with the Best Health Infrastructure for Coronavirus” Score
Wallethub also mentioned how birthing costs won't hit your wallet as badly in some states as they will in others.
"Birthing costs, however, won’t hit your wallet as badly in some states as they will in others. Expenses can vary significantly, considering the wide disparities in cost of living. They can also differ from one pregnancy to another, given that some women experience delivery complications. But there’s more to think about than just cost. Some states provide better quality health care service and better environments in which to care for children."
