It was a staple of not one, but two big films based here in Minnesota in the '90s, and now it's been listed for sale.

I'm talking, of course, about the film, Grumpy Old Men. The blockbuster motion picture based here in Minnesota debuted in theatres around the country on Christmas Day, December 25th, back in 1993.

One of the main houses in the film-- "the old Clickner place"-- according to this Star Tribune story, is up for sale in St. Paul. (It was the house in that Ann Margaret's character, Ariel, bought in the film.) And it can be yours, the story says, for just $249,900. It was built in 1918, and is located on Hyacinth Ave East, just a few blocks from Lake Phelan.

Both Grumpy Old Men and its sequel, Grumpier Old Men, were set in Wabasha though filming never took place there.  Most of the house scenes were shot in St. Paul, with various other parts of the state involved, as well. The ice fishing scenes were shot on Lake Rebecca, in Rockford, northwest of the Twin Cities. Various shots of Barn Bluff in Red Wing were used, as were parts of Faribault. Center City and Stillwater also had a few cameo appearances.

The film went on to gross over $70-million dollars in 1993, while also inspiring the sequel, Grumpier Old Men, which would hit screen two years later, in 1995. You can check out more about the (listed by Jesse Godzala of Edina Realty) HERE.
