One Bite and You’re in Italy—Yarusso Bros Recognized as #1 in Minnesota
I'm excited to check out Neumann's, Minnesota's oldest bar, which I recently wrote about. It opened in 1887 and is famous for its frogs.
The Hubbel House in Mantorville is another place that's been around forever and is worth checking out. It opened four years before Minnesota became a state, and at one time was a favorite for celebrities and politicians.
Call me a nerd, but I love these time-tested businesses in historic buildings, and today I learned about another that was labeled as the "Bucket-List Italian Restaurant" in Minnesota for an unforgettable meal.
If you know me, you know I love Italian food. A recent survey showed that most Minnesotans would pick steak as their last meal. Not me, I'm going with a big bowl of spaghetti and meatballs!

The food experts at Love Food selected the best Italian restaurants in every US state, and their choice for Minnesota has been around since the 1930s.
Minnesota Bucket List Italian Restaurant: Yarusso Bros Italian Restaurant, St Paul
The story of Yarusso Bros starts with Francesco Yarusso. He was born a couple of hours south of Rome. His family (and the family recipes) arrived in America in 1899.
In 1932, he opened a bar and expanded the next year to include a café. Every member of Francesco’s family would work at the "Square Deal Café".
Francesco’s sons took over when he retired in 1947 and rebranded the restaurant with a new name, "Yarusso Bros.” The home-cooked Italian meals have remained pretty much the same over the last 60 years, with the same sauce recipe that was created way back in the day by Francesco.
I love that backstory, and can’t wait to try this restaurant. Love Food recognized this family-owned business, calling it Minnesota's bucket list Italian restaurant for an unforgettable meal.
An old-school Italian through and through, Yarusso Bros is one of the oldest family-owned restaurants in St. Paul, in operation under its current name since 1947. It's a mom-and-pop joint serving pure comfort food, with the likes of pasta, garlic cheese toast, and pizza options all on the menu. But customers are really there for the huge meatballs and red sauce with spaghetti.
Yarusso Bros Italian Restaurant is at 635 Payne Avenue in St. Paul, MN.
