Memorial To Be Held Tuesday For Well-Known Rochester Veteran
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Friends and others are holding two events today for a well-known Rochester veteran who recently died.
Jim Sursely was seriously wounded while serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. He lost his legs below the knees and also lost his left arm below the elbow in a landmine explosion.
The Rochester native later moved to Florida where he began a successful real estate career. He also became heavily involved in disabled veterans issues. Sursely was elected national commander of the Disabled American Veterans organization in 2004.
Local veterans have organized a memorial service for Sursely at the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial at 4:00 pm.
Following the ceremony, organizers are inviting “family, friends, classmates and anyone personally touched by Jim” to a Celebration of Life at Rochester’s VFW Post 1215 located at 2775 43rd Street NW.
Doors open at 5:00 pm for social time followed by a short program at 6:00 pm.
