It was a thrilling four-set match for the Section 1A East Subsection crown. #1 seeded Mabel-Canton and #2 seeded Caledonia left everything on the floor, battling for points each and every set.

The Cougars were able to come out on top 3-1, going 19-25, 25-23, 25-16 and 26-24. The Warriors played one of their best matches of the year against a very tough Mabel-Canton team. Caledonia did a great job of staying away from the errors and were really tough in the front row.

The offense was brilliant for Caledonia as Alexis Simpson and Lydia Lange continued to take great swings on the ball and help the Warriors build an early lead in set one. From there Caledonia used their aggressive serving to take the first set.

Mabel-Canton battle back in the second set with great play from Payton Danielson and Sarina Stortz to help even things up at 1 apiece. Set three is where the tide started to turn a bit. Mabel-Canton jumped out to a lead, but Caledonia came roaring back and took a 15-14 lead part-way through the set.

From there, the Cougars went on a 10-0 run to go up 24-15 and ended up winning 25-16 to take a 2-1 lead. Kendi McCabe had a great set and the Cougars played through her offensively to take the set.

Set four was much of the same as the teams traded long rallies throughout the set, but it was Stortz who got an ace-block to secure the 26-24 victory and the Subsection Championship for Mabel-Canton.

Both teams were focused and both teams played with everything they had. The atmosphere felt like a college competition as each team made incredible plays throughout the night. Kendi McCabe was awarded our Kingsley Mercantile Game Ball for leading M-C in kills, digs and set assists.

Mabel-Canton will take on Medford in the Section 1A Title Game Saturday afternoon at 1 pm for the right to go to the State Tournament. We will broadcast the game on 103.1 KFIL!
