Lewiston-Altura Takes Final 3 Sets To Beat Houston 3-1
#10 seed Houston took the first set 25-23, but #7 Lewiston-Altura took the next three 25-9, 25-20 and 25-17 to win 3-1 over Houston in Section 1A East Subsection Volleyball tournament action.
Houston was able to come back after trailing 5-0 in the first set. Houston tied it up at 6, 7, 13, before taking their first lead 14-13. We then saw ties at 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 before the Hurricanes ran away with the 25-23 victory. Jennifer Albrecht was great for the Hurricanes, leading them offensively.
Set 2 was a big momentum boost for the Cardinals, as they took it to the Hurricanes jumping out to an 8-2 lead. Houston came back to cut it to 11-5, but the Cardinals were able to use a huge run to make their lead 22-8, and eventually take a 25-9 win. Myia Ruzek played great in the second set to help put the Cardinals to victory.
Ruzek kept up her great play in the third set, along with Madison Mundt as the Cardinals had to come back from a hot start from the Hurricanes. Houston started out with an 8-3 lead, and then Lewiston-Altura came back to tie things up at 14. The Cardinals were able to ride out the win to a 2-1 set lead. The big momentum swing came with Ruzek again who was a beast at the net getting several blocks and kills. Rebecca Lee was great for Houston as well.
Set four went to the Cardinals as they umped out to a 11-5 lead, and led throughout. The Hurricanes just couldn't keep the momentum going, and Lewiston-Altura was able to get the 3-1 victory. They will move on to take on the #2 seed Mabel-Canton Cougars on Thursday.
