Late Push Sends Kingsland Past Grand Meadow
The Kingsland Knights led for a majority of the game against the Grand Meadow Superlarks, but a late push was the key for Kingsland to get the win Friday night in Grand Meadow 73-55 in Southeast Conference action.
The Knights opened the game on a 12-1 run before Grand Meadow could get their offense going. The Knights were able to keep the Superlarks at bay for a majority of the half, with some stellar offense from Reid Kruegel, who finished with a team-high 21 points.
The Knights continued to push earl, but Grand Meadow was eventually able to dial up the pressure and get some shots to fall. Austin Funk was key in closing the deficit with four, first-half threes to cut the lead down to 30-24 with 50 seconds to go before the half, then Kingsland was able to get a couple of buckets late to make it 33-24 at the half.
The Superlarks came out firing in the 2nd half, getting a couple stops and hitting back-to-back 3s to cut the lead to 33-30 quickly. Then, the Knights finally got some offense going to build the lead back up.
Grand Meadow battled tough and then Colt Landers started hitting shots from all over the floor on his way to a game-high 25 points. Landers hit a 3 with 11:51 to go to give Grand Meadow its first lead of the game at 45-43, but the Knights were cool, calm and collected and finished the game strong to get the 73-55 win, outscoring Grand Meadow 30-10 down the stretch.
Four different Knights were in double figures led by Kruegel, Wyatt Pruter added 15, Zach Hauser had 14 and Lucas Howard had 13. Grand Meadow was paced by Landers with 25 and Austin Funk with 14.
