2019 CMA Awards: Eagles’ Joe Walsh Added to Kris Kristofferson Tribute
Eagles member Joe Walsh will help honor 2019 CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award winner Kris Kristofferson at the 2019 CMA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 13). The guitarist will be part of the all-star group honoring the songwriter and artist with a performance, the Country Music Association announced on Wednesday morning.
In recognition of Kristofferson's Lifetime Achievement Award win, Walsh will join Dierks Bentley, Sheryl Crow, Chris Janson and the Brothers Osborne's John Osborne for a rendition of Kristofferson's song "Me and Bobby McGee," made famous by Janis Joplin. Kristofferson himself will not be at the 2019 CMA Awards, however: He has a show in Davenport, Iowa, on Wednesday night.
“Kris is a living legend whose impact on our genre has been monumental,” says Country Music Association CEO Sarah Trahern in a press release. “He is the definition of an icon and someone our community holds with such high regard. I’m thrilled our board selected Kris this year for one of the CMA’s highest accolades."
Kristofferson is a Country Music Hall of Fame member and eight-time CMA Awards winner. He is the fifth recipient of the CMA's Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented to "an iconic artist who has attained the highest degree of recognition in country music," in recognition of "both national and international prominence through performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, record sales and public representation at the highest level."
In addition to his role in the Kristofferson tribute, Walsh will also serve as a presenter at the 2019 CMA Awards. Other presenters for the evening include Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride and just-announced presenters Jimmie Allen and Cody Johnson, Good Morning America contributor Lara Spencer and actor Reese Witherspoon.
The 2019 CMA Awards are scheduled to air on ABC on Nov. 13, at 8PM ET; the ceremony will take place live at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood will co-host the event, which will also be highlighting some of country music's female artists. Carly Pearce and Michael Ray will co-host the pre-telecast festivities.
