Passenger Hospitalized After SUV Hits Deer in Winona County
Dakota, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Wisconsin woman was taken to a hospital after an SUV she was riding in hit a deer.
The State Patrol responded to the collision shortly after 6:30 Thursday evening. The SUV-deer crash happened in Winona County.
The state crash report says the SUV was traveling in the eastbound lane of I-90 when it hit the deer in Dakota, which is across the Mississippi River from La Crosse.
The driver has been identified as 52-year-old Liban Abdulkadir Bile of St. Paul. He was not hurt.
26-year-old Emily Smith of Madison, WI has been identified as the passenger. She was taken to a hospital in La Crosse with what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Both drivers were buckled up and alcohol was not involved in the crash, the report says. The Winona County Sheriff’s Office, Dakota Fire Department and Tri State Ambulance also responded to the SUV-deer collision.
Correction: a previous version of this story indicated Smith suffered life-threatening injuries.
