Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A homeless man is facing a list of felony charges stemming from a police response to a report of a domestic assault in Rochester earlier this week.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court, Rochester police officers were sent to a local residence and spoke with a woman who stated that she had been strangled and assaulted by her boyfriend. The woman indicated her boyfriend, identified as 36-year-old Billy Ray Cade Jr., is homeless but had been staying overnight at her home during the previous month.

The court document says the woman told police the couple were involved in an argument when Cade "snapped" and put her in a headlock on the bed. She stated that she was "seeing stars and her vision was going" before he let her go.

At that point, the criminal complaint says the woman told Cade that they were breaking up and ordered him out of the home. She also told police that she directed her daughter to run and call for help.

The victim then stated that her daughter returned to the residence with two other children to help her and that Cade responded by brandishing a knife and pointing the blade in front of him toward the children. According to the complaint, the woman told police she was afraid that Cade was going to stab the children and stood in front of them to shield them before Cade fled the home on foot.

The court document says the woman also told police that Cade had previously threatened to kill her and had assaulted her in the past. She described him choking her while she was sleeping and burning her with a lighter.

When police located Cade, the officers found him in possession of a knife. The criminal complaint says Cade admitted to previously strangling his girlfriend while she was sleeping.

Cade's conditional bail has been set at $50,000.
