It is Spring! Flood Run is Taking Place This Weekend
Winona, MN (KROC-AM News) - While the weather has dramatically improved over the last few days, it will likely still be a bit on the cool side for the tens of thousands of motorcycling enthusiasts expected to participate in the 53rd annual Spring Flood Run on Saturday.
The popular event often fills the highways along the Mississippi River in southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin with motorcycles. It's a major fundraiser for the Gillette Children's Hospital and serves as the unofficial kickoff to the motorcycle riding season. Minnesota State Patrol Lieutenant Tiffany Nielsen says it’s also a good time to remind motorcyclists of the need to ride safely and remind other motorists to keep an eye out for motorcyclists.
The Flood Run commemorates the devastating 1965 flooded Winona and the assistance rendered by a group of about a dozen Twin Cities men who rode their motorcycles to Winona and went to work assisting the victims of the flood.
