March is Women's History Month, Monday is International Women's Day, and so Wallethub released their 2021 Best & Worst States for Women list and Minnesota is number one.

How do you judge a "women-friendly" state? WH compared all the states, plus Washington D.C. in 26 areas. From median earnings for women working to the homicide rate for women.

We didn't hit #1 in any particular category. The highest Minnesota scored was 2nd in median earnings, adjusted for the cost of living. The lowest we scored was 11th for Unemployment rate for women and women's preventive health care. The numbers added up to us being better than any other state, which is both cool, and crappy.

The Midwest did OK...all our state neighbors coming in the Top Ten (not a surprise).

  1. Minnesota
  2. Maine
  3. Vermont
  4. North Dakota
  5. District of Columbia (20th in women's health and safety)
  6. Iowa
  7. Washington
  8. Massachusetts
  9. Wisconsin
  10. South Dakota (21st in women's health and safety)
