Zumbrota, MN (KROC-AM News) - The impressive snowfall totals produced by the latest snowstorm to pound southeastern Minnesota were high enough to cause significant damage to a historical landmark near Rochester. The weight of the snow apparently caused the roof on the famous covered bridge near Zumbrota to give way this morning.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the bridge structure was built in 1869 and was covered two years later. It served as a span over the North Branch of the Zumbro River until it was moved to the Goodhue County Fairgrounds in 1932. It was moved to its current location, only about 100-feet from its original placement, in 1997 to anchor the Covered Bridge Park.

MnDOT lists it as the only remaining covered timber truss bridge in the state.
