Blaine, MN (KROC AM News) -  A man was shot by a law enforcement officer in a north metro suburb late Monday after he had fired several rounds in a residential neighborhood.

Police in Blaine responded to “a report a male that was firing a gun outside in a residential neighborhood."

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says Blaine Police as well as other area law enforcement responded to the location just after 10:00 pm “and additional shots were fired by the suspect. Other area residents reported hearing gunshots and were advised to seek shelter in their homes.”

The sheriff's office says a perimeter was set up in an attempt to contain the man.

According to the sheriff’s office:

“The male fired a weapon, this time in the direction of a residence in the neighborhood. The male fired several more times while outside including down the residential street. A deputy from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office ultimately fired a weapon at the male, who was struck. Medical aid was immediately rendered. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. At this time his condition is unknown.”

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting an investigation of the officer-involved shooting.
