The #6 seeded Grand Meadow Superlarks were able to hold off the #3 seeded Houston Hurricanes Monday night at Rochester Lourdes High School. The Superlarks won the defensive battle 49-45 in the Section 1A Quarterfinal Matchup.

The Superlarks took control in the early goings of the first half, but Houston was able to make a late push to lead 21-19 at the break after Sydney Torgerson hit a shot with just over 15 seconds to go.

Grand Meadow as able to tighten things back up defensively in the second half, and then tied the score at 38 after Riley Queensland hit a bucket with just over four minutes to go.

Then, Isabelle Olson forced a turnover for the Superlarks and hit the layup to give Grand Meadow a 40-38 lead. That lead eventually grew to 45-38 and forced Houston to call a timeout.

The Hurricanes were able to bounce back and Emma Geiwitz led the Hurricanes on a 5-0 run to cut the lead down to two, 45-43. The Superlarks got a bucket from River Landers to bring the lead back up to four before Houston scored on the other end with just seconds to go to cut the lead to 47-45.

The Superlarks had the ball, got the inbound in and executed a wonderful play to get Queensland in the open floor and all the way in for a bucket and solidifying the 49-45 win.

Both teams played great defensivley, and Houston did a great job of limiting Grand Meadow's possessions and attacking with their 1-3-1 zone look. Grand Meadow was just able to make more plays down the stretch.

Queensland led the way with 20 points for Grand Meadow, while Rylee Groom added in 11. Geiwitz had 15 to pace Houston while Torgerson added in 12.

The win sends Grand Meadow to the Section 1A Semifinal Saturday afternoon at the Mayo Civic Auditorium. They will battle #2 seeded Fillmore Central at 1:30 pm and the game will be broadcasted on 103.1 KFIL.
