The GMLOK Bulldogs got two, 2-run home runs in the top of the third to help build a 6-5 win over the St. Charles Saints in Game 1 of a doubleheader Friday night.

Zach Bubany swang a hot bat, going 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Bulldogs, while Nick Ramaker went 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two RBI and a run scored to help pace the offense.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the second on St. Charles starter Landen Fohrman when Grant Skifter hit an RBI single to score Bubany, and then Dylan Lunning hit a sacrifice fly that scored Skifter.

The Saints got one back in the second, but the Bulldogs blew it open with four in the 3rd with the two home runs. St. Charles tailed another run in the fourth.

The 6-2 lead proved to be just enough as the Saints were only able to push across three runs in the 5th. It started when Jersey Thoreson reached on an error, and then Mark Buuringa reach on a fielder's choice. He advanced all the way around to third on two wild pitches and then scored on an RBI single from Parker Wendt.

Wendt's single also scored Nolan Boice. Wendt was the tying run on third, but reliever Zach Myhre was able to strike out the final Saints batter to get the win.

Ethan Fenske got the start for the Bulldogs, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing five runs, and striking out two. Fohrman pitched all five for the Saints in the loss. giving up six runs, only two of them earned.
