While they had been low for much of 2020, gas prices are up-- and are continuing to rise as we move through 2021 here in Minnesota.

One of the many surreal moments for me during our ongoing pandemic happened in mid-March of 2020, right after the coronavirus hit here in Minnesota, as were we in the middle of our first Stay-At-Home order.

It was then that gas prices fell into territory I thought I'd never see again-- with many stations and convenience stores selling a gallon of unleaded for around $1.65 a gallon. (In fact, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, gas prices in Minnesota bottomed out in late-April, selling for the unheard-of price of $1.50 a gallon!)

Since last spring, prices have been slowly increasing here in Rochester and across the Land of 10,000 Lakes, though they stayed right around the $2 a gallon mark for much of the year. However, as of last fall, they've been steadily increasing. In fact, this Lundberg CSP story says that gas prices are up, on average, 35 cents a gallon nationally since last November, and have increased 16 cents a gallon in the last month. They're up 6 cents a gallon alone in the past two weeks, the story said.

Here in Rochester, as of Thursday (Feb. 11) GasBuddy says a gallon of unleaded is currently selling for between $2.34 and $2.44 a gallon-- still less than the national average of $2.50 a gallon, but definitely higher than we've seen in several months. And, it looks like they'll continue to increase, as the Lundberg CSP story says higher crude oil prices are forecast for the next month, as well.

The fact that many of us are still working at home might help to make those increases at the pump more bearable, seeing as we're not driving as much. Speaking of driving, what's your favorite iconic car? (I've always wanted a Mustang convertible!) Keep scrolling to check out just which famous cars made their debut the same year you were born!
