On Monday afternoon, the Minnesota Vikings announced that they have signed seven players to futures/reserves contracts following the end of their 2015-16 season. One of them is former Caledonia Warrior and Minnesota Golden Gopher Isaac Fruechte! The full list of signees is:

  • G Isame Faciane (Florida International)
  • WR Isaac Fruechte (Minnesota)
  • DT Toby Johnson (Georgia)
  • DB John Lowdermilk (Iowa)
  • LB Terrance Plummer (Central Florida)
  • FB Blake Renaud (Boise State)
  • LB Alex Singleton (Montana State)

Isaac spent the entire 2015-16 season on the Vikings' practice squad after being signed as an undrafted free agent.

Futures contracts reserve the rights to temporarily protect them in preparation for the following season. They are typically used on a player that does not warrant an active roster spot but is showing signs that they might in the near future. Futures contracts count against a team's 90-man training camp and off season roster but not the 53-man regular season slate. Players become eligible for futures/reserves contracts if they are not on a team's active roster at the end of the season.

Congratulations, Isaac!
