Five Great Winter Hiking Trails in Minnesota
Being an active person during the summer can make for very long winters. I love to be outside when it's warm, but I'm not a huge fan of the cold. Everyone I have talked to said that if you can learn to enjoy the outdoors this winter, you are never going to leave. My plan is to get a good pair of snowshoes and go hiking as much as I possibly can. I have done some research and here are five hiking trails you should check out this winter according to WCCO.
There are a lot of unique things to do at Baker Park Reserve. If you are looking to stay overnight, you can rent cabins. The site says that it is the perfect place to go snowshoeing as well as just a fun little walk around Lake Independence. Their site even says you can go snowmobiling, sledding, and tubing!
If you are an ice fisher, the site says this is a great place to visit. You can fish on Lake Minnewashta. This is also a great option for families if you have dogs. You can take your four-legged friends off their leash and explore while the kiddos hike in some marked areas. That sounds like a fun family adventure.
If you are looking for a great educational experience, Warner Nature Center is the place to go. They have great hiking trails and even offer guided hikes. The site says that on these guided hikes, you will learn about nature and do activities that teach you about wildlife.
I have driven by Gooseberry Falls State Park but never have gone in. Everyone says it is beautiful all year round especially during winter. There are plenty of great trails that will show you waterfalls and nature. Get those snowshoes ready because you can do some real damage there.
Many like to visit here in the winter because it is right next to the St.Crix River. Like my dad always says, where there is water there are bugs. In the winter, you don't have to worry about mosquitos. While here you can rent snowshoes, hike or even learn how to make maple syrup. Another fun day for the family.
