Fire Breaks Out At Rochester Salon
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A single sprinkler head may have helped save a Rochester business.
Rochester Fire Dept. crews were sent to Polished Nail Salon at 3780 Marketplace Dr. NW around 7:15 AM Saturday and immediately encountered heavy smoke.
Firefighters quickly found a small fire at one of the workstations inside the business that was being held in check by a single sprinkler head. The fire was completely extinguished using a fire extinguisher.
RFD says there was fire damage to a workstation and smoke damage throughout the business suite. No monetary estimate was given. The fire is currently under investigation
RFD says “This is another excellent example of a sprinkler system keeping a fire at bay before it could do further damage or cause potential harm to humans. Quick notification of the fire department through on-site monitoring, as well as the early activation of a sprinkler head, was what kept this fire as minimal as it was. A fire doubles in size every 60 seconds.” According to the National Fire Protection Administration, “Sprinklers were effective at controlling the fire in 96% of fires in which they operated.”
