Federal Prison for Members of Minnesota Crime Family
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Federal prosecutors in Minnesota are close to wrapping up a case involving the trafficking of tens of millions of dollars worth of stolen cell phones and related technology.
Officials say 40-year-old Kanan Mustafa, 43-year-old Jamal Mustafa and 29-year-old Nizer Mustafa were sentenced to federal prison on Friday for their convictions on charges connected to the worldwide criminal conspiracy run by the Mustafa family crime organization in the Twin Cities. Kanan Mustafa was sentenced to 130 months, while the two other men were given 87 month prison terms. The trio was also ordered to pay over $1 million dollars in restitution.
Gregory Brooker, the Acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, says all 21 people indicted in the case have pleaded guilty and only one person has yet to be sentenced.
The indictment alleges the three men, and other members of the Mustafa family crime organization, committed identity theft and used other methods to steal or fraudulently obtain cell phones while operating 13 mobile device stores in the Twin Cities area. The stolen phones and other devices were then resold, at a healthy profit, to customers throughout the U.S. and other countries.
