She stands so proudly and majestically in New York Harbor.  The Statue of Liberty was gifted to the United States from France and dedicated on October 28, 1886.  How much do you really know about Her?  Well here's some interesting facts I dug up (thanks to several travel sites and my old encyclopedia):

Statue Height:  151 feet, 1 inch.  Length of index finger: 8 feet, 1 inch.  Nose length: 4 feet, 6 inches.  Tablet size:  23 feet 7 inches in length by 13 feet 7 inches in width.  Total weight of the Statue of Liberty:  450,000 pounds.

Designer:  Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor; builder, Gustave Eiffel.  Inscription on tablet: July 4, 1776 (the date of the Declaration of Independence).  The Statue was closed to the public from 1984 to 1986 for renovations.  The original torch was removed and replaced, the new flame being covered in 24-carat gold.  A new elevator was installed for handicapped access.  The Statue was reopened to the public  July 5, 1986.  During the dedication of the renovated statue, President Reagan stated "We are the keepers of the flame of liberty; we hold it high for the world to see".

Visitors to the Statue of Liberty must take a ferry service to the island.  Riders on the ferry go through a security check akin to airport security.  Should you wish to climb the staircase to the crown, you will once again go through a security check, and can only take with you medication and cameras; all other items are placed in a locker.  Only 240 people per day are allowed to climb the stairs to the crown.

There you have it.  A few interesting facts about the Statue of Liberty that might win you cash on Jeopardy! some day!
