If you're getting the itch to get out and travel, you'll soon have seven new options leaving from Minnesota if you fly Delta Airlines.

Delta Airlines is the largest airline in Minnesota and, of course, has a major hub at the largest airport in Minnesota, the Minneapolis - St. Paul International Airport (MSP) in Bloomington. It also happens to be ranked as the top airline in the country according to the most recent J.D. Power survey for North America Airline Satisfaction.

I still kind of think of Delta as a 'Minnesota' airline, even though it's not headquartered here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Its corporate headquarters are in Atlanta, but since Delta merged with Minnesota's Northwest Airlines in 2008, Delta still has a major Minnesota influence.

And now, Delta just announced it's adding seven new routes that will fly direct from MSP starting next year. According to airline industry site SimpleFlying.com, the new Delta routes, which are set to start in 2022, include:

  • Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) three times per week
  • Portland, Maine's International Jetport (PWM)
  • Providence, Rhode Island’s T.F. Green International Airport (PVD)
  • Myrtle Beach, South Carolina International Airport (MYR) three times per week
  • Wyoming's Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) once per week on Saturdays
  • Burlington, Vermont's International Airport (BTV) three times per week
  • Asheville, South Carolina's Regional Airport (AVL) once per week on Saturdays

SimpleFlying also speculates that the recent additional direct routes to Ashville, Charleston, Jacksonville and Burlington by rival Minnesota airline, Sun Country Airlines, might have spurred these new Delta routes.

As I mentioned earlier, Delta merged with Minneapolis-based Northwest Airlines back in 2008. Northwest was one of those brands that was once huge here in Minnesota (kind of like Dayton's also was) but that now no longer exists. Which is the same for many of the following famous brands.
