Minneapolis (KROC AM News) -  The Derek Chauvin trial is winding down and should be in the hands of the jury next week.

The defense rested its case Thursday after Chauvin informed the court that he will not testify.

After the prosecution spent two weeks producing evidence and calling numerous witnesses, the defense took just two days to present its case.

Closing arguments are scheduled Monday and then the jury will begin deliberations.

Chauvin is charged with 2nd and 3rd-degree murder and 2nd-degree manslaughter in the 2020 death of George Floyd.

Prosecutors contend Floyd died after Chauvin kept his knee on his neck for about nine minutes. Chauvin’s attorney tried to present evidence that indicated Floyd’s death was the result of drug use and health issues.

News update: Car stolen from Rochester area bar recovered.
