May 5, 1942 Virginia Wynette Pugh was born in Mississippi.  Tammy Wynette went on to be a Country Hall of Fame member and was called the "First Lady of Country Music", recording such great hits as "Til I Get It Right" and her signature "Stand By Your Man".
