Country Music History December 9
Just some good ol' boys.
That is what always sticks with me when I hear the name Waylon Jennings, and he earned a gold single for the RIAA today in 1980 for the song "Theme form The Dukes of Hazzard (Good Ol' Boys). The song hit number one on Billboards Hot Country Singles in 1980.
Interesting fact about the song, Jennings recorded two different versions. One for the show, and other one to be played commercially. The version played on TV contained a banjo, while the commercial one had no banjo, and contained an extra verse.
That was far from all of Jennings' hits, as contributed in many different ways, including with The Highwaymen. Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash and Jennings became known as the The Highwaymen, collaborating on several different hits, including 'The Highwayman'
Jennings won a Grammy back in 1970 for the Best Country Performance by a Duo/Group with with the Kimberleys for 'MacAruther Park', he won another Grammy in the same category in 1979 with Willie Nelson for the song "Mammas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys."
Jennings is one of the greatest country music artist ever, and 'The Theme From The Dukes of Hazzard (Good Ol' Boys)' will stay with Americans forever.
