Country Music History July 18
Monday, Monday...can't trust that day. Do you remember that song by The Mamas And The Papas?
Anyway, on to country music! Bluegrass singer, Ricky Skaggs, was born in 1954 in Cordell, Kentucky. Skaggs was named Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year in 1985, and joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1982.
While reading newspaper in 1986, Johnny Cash learned that Columbia Records dropped him after he had been with the label for 28 years.
Way back in 1964, Roger Miller had his first #1 Billboard country single "Dang Me".
And in 2008 during a concert at NY Shea Stadium, Garth Brooks joined headliner, Billy Joel, on stage and performed "Shameless". That is a great song and truthfully, I'm not sure whose rendition I like better. They are both great.
