The last day of the month does not provide much history, but here goes!

Looking at the Billboard country singles chart, the #1 tune in 1974 was George Jones and "The Grand Tour", while in 1968 it was Merle Haggard and "Mama Tried".

In 1968, Jeannie C. Riley made her Grand Ole Opry debut.
