Merle Haggard.  The name speaks for itself.  The legend.  The singer of "Okie From Muskogee", "Mama Tried", "If We Make It Through December" and a host of other country hits, was born April 6, 1937 in Bakersfield, California.

What proved to be a mega-hit and a dance craze, in 1992 Mercury records released "Achy Breaky Heart" by Billy Ray Cyrus.

Looking at the Billboard country singles charts, "Gone" by Ferlin Husky is in the #1 position in 1957; and in 1991, Garth Brooks and "Two Of A Kind Workin' On A Full House".

The First Lady of Country Music, Tammy Wynette, died at her home in Nashville April 6, 1998.
