Today celebrates the birthday of a truly remarkable lady and wonderful talent.  Loretta Lynn was born on this date in 1932 in Butcher Holler, Kentucky.  Loretta was the first woman to win the Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year award in 1972. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988.

"Oh Lonesome Me" by Don Gibson reached the top of the country singles Billboard chart in 1958.

In 1979, Barbara Mandrell's "(If Loving You is Wrong) I Don't Want to be Right" topped the country Billboard chart.

And in 1986, the Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year Award went to Alabama for the fifth straight time.  Alabama also received its sixth consecutive Top Vocal Group award.
