Cougars Trounce Burros
On Tuesday night, KFIL brought you some Southeast Conference basketball. The Mabel-Canton Cougars came out with the big win on Parents Night.
Parents Night did delay our broadcast, and it was a packed gym with Lanesboro coming to town. Once we got going the Cougars scored the first six points before Lanesboro's Leah Ruen cut that lead in half with a shot good from three-point range. After that, the first half mostly belonged to the Cougars, as they picked up steals on defense and buckets on the other end. The Cougars ended the half on a 7-0 run to make it a 26-9 Mabel-Canton halftime lead.
During halftime, the Fillmore County Eagles Special Olympics basketball team provided the entertainment, playing some good basketball against some of the M-C boys.
The second half continued that run, and after Lanesboro scored their 10th point, M-C went on a 15-0 run. A couple late buckets and the final was 49-15 in favor of the home Cougars.
KFIL Subway Player of the Game for the Lanesboro Burros was Leah Ruen. Leah scored 4 points in the game, including the early 3-pointer to get it close early.
KFIL Subway Player of the Game for the Mabel-Canton Cougars was Courtney Graves. Again, scoring quietly, when she got the ball she put it up and in. Nine points in the first half led to a lead the Cougars would not give up.
The Kingsley Mercantile Game Ball goes to Payton Danielson. The Cougar freshman had a number of steals in each half and knocked the ball out of bounds when she couldn't get it to interrupt the Burro offense. Danielson also scored 16 points in the win.
