Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council has given final approval to a plan to establish lower speed limits in residential areas.

Under the plan that was approved Monday, existing streets will “have speed limits that are not less than 25 miles per hour.” This requirement will not apply to redesigned or reconstructed streets. The goal of the new policy ”is to generally design, construct, and reconstruct residential Local Streets to 20 miles per hour.”

The Monday session was the final one of the year for the council - and four of its members. Council President Randy Staver and members Mark Bilderback and Annalissa Johnson decided not to run again this year and member Michael Wojcik lost his re-election bid.
