Harris, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in east-central Minnesota say a man was killed Monday during a confrontation involving Chisago County deputies and a suicidal carjacking suspect.

A statement released by the Sheriff’s Department says the fatal shooting occurred about two hours after deputies were sent to North Branch to investigate a report of a carjacking by a man with a gun accompanied by his 7-year-old daughter. That was about 7:40 in the morning.

At about 9:50 a.m., the man activated the OnStar service in the vehicle and requested that someone come and get his daughter, while he was threatening suicide. When deputies arrived at his location near the town of Harris, the law officers opened fire after encountering the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the carjacker has not been released.

His young daughter was found in the car unharmed.

The statement indicates the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is in charge of the investigation.
