The defense has been the bread and butter for Caledonia this season, and it was just that in the State Semifinals. The Warriors held Paynesville to 6 points en route to a 40-6 win to advance on to the State Championship Game.

The Warriors scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to give the Warriors a 27-0 lead at the break, and then the defense was able to slow down Paynesville's offense whose lone score came in the 3rd quarter on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Grady Fuchs to Sam Oehrlein.

The Warriors offense really got cooking in the second quarter after Jack Beardmore had a 58-yard touchdown run to give Caledonia a 14-0 lead. Noah King then ran in two scores later in the quarter to give Caledonia a 27-0 lead at the break.

Paynesville started to up the tempo in the third quarter to get their offense moving, but the Warriors were able to keep pace and really put the hammer on in the third quarter fumble that went 34 yards in Caledonia's favor help set up a Nick McCabe 8-yard score and a 40-6 lead.

The strong defensive effort that held Paynesville to 133 total yards proved to be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. King ran for three scores, Beardmore added one on 121 yards and McCabe had 84 yards and a score as well. King also threw one touchdown to Nick McCabe in the first quarter.

The Warriors were firing on all cylinders and will look to continue that play as they will look for their fourth-straight state championship Friday afternoon between the winner of Minneapolis North and Barnesville. The action will be broadcast on 103.1 KFIL!
