Caledonia Looks To Make It 4 Straight – Opens State With NRHEG
The Caledonia Warriors football team has been a powerhouse throughout the state for a while, and after winning their 51st game and 5th straight Section Title, they are looking to put a stamp on it all with a fourth-straight state title.
The Warriors defense is legit. There really is no other way to put it. They allow just 5.4 points per game with their 10-0 record. Yet, the Warriors have allowed a whopping 54 points this season.
Their offense isn't half bad either, they score 36.3 points per game.
Caledonia has taken pride in their defense for a long time and this year it looks like it may be one of the best they ever had. Their job this week to try and slow down an offense that has averaged 33 points a game this season and just knocked off the #4 team in the state, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.
The Panthers come in ranked #10 in the state and will try and beat the #1 Warriors who have dominated Class AA for three straight seasons.
The Panthers can move the ball well on the ground and through the air, and they are banking on their balanced attack to keep the Warriors on their heels. We know the Warriors are fast and love to get teams to be one denominational, but the Panthers have proved to be a problem for opposing defenses this season. They are 9-2 on the year with losses to WEM in the regular season, Pipestone Area, who is ranked #8.
It will be a great showdown to see if the Warriors can make it win number 52 in a row and move on to the State Semifinals. Look for the Panthers to try and control the clock and move the chains to try and slow down a high-flying Warriors offense that can do it through the air with QB Noah King and RB Nick McCabe.
The Quarterfinal matchup can be heard on 103.1 KFIL with a 7 pm kickoff from Burnsville.
