Byron, MN (KROC-AM News) - The recent string of vehicle thefts in the Byron area continues.

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office today reported the theft of another car in Byron. A spokesman says the total number of vehicles stolen in Byron over the past few weeks is now in the double digits.

The most recent theft occurred sometime between 8:30 Wednesday evening and 7:15 Thursday morning in the 600 block of First Avenue Northeast. The Sheriff's Office says another vehicle that had been reported stolen in Dodge County was parked nearby in a situation similar to the theft of another vehicle in Byron earlier this week.

Late yesterday afternoon, the Sheriff's Office responded to a report by a rural resident and found the car that had been reported stolen in Byron earlier in the day in a ditch along a rural road. A spokesman says it appears the driver lost control and the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it after they found themselves stuck in the ditch.

The report on the incident noted the keys to the car were still in the ignition.
As was the case in many of the other vehicle thefts reported recently in Byron, the owner had left the car parked outside with the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition.
