40 Years Ago Today: ‘Airplane’ was Released in Theatres

On July 2, 1980, Airplane! was released in theatres, starring Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, & Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

It was the fourth highest-grossing film in the U.S. in 1980 – behind Stir Crazy, 9 to 5, and the #1 movie, The Empire Strikes Back.

It's regarded as one of the greatest comedy films of all-time.
