140 MPH Motorcycle Chase on I-494 Captured by MnDOT Cameras
South St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A motorcyclist was arrested Sunday morning following an ultra high-speed chase in the Twin Cities.
The website MN Crime posted the video of the chase using Minnesota Department of Transportation cameras that shows the pursuit near where it began near South St. Paul when the motorcyclist passed a State Trooper on I-494 at more than 100 mph. At one point during the chase, the State Trooper informs the dispatcher that the pursuit was continuing in moderate traffic on eastbound I-494 at 140 mph.
The video shows the chase crossing the Mississippi River at speeds of 120 to around 130 mph. Multiple State Troopers had joined the pursuit, which continued at extremely high speeds through the I-94 interchange before the motorcyclist encountered heavier traffic in Oakdale. That allowed a State Trooper to cut him off when he attempted to elude his pursuers on the right shoulder of the freeway.
The video then shows several State Troopers placing the man in handcuffs and placing him in the backseat of one of their squad cars. The motorcyclist is not identified, but the MN Crime report indicates he is an 18-year-old man.
