Can't people just get along? In 1924, Bob Meusel of the Yankees was hit in the back by a wild pitch and threw his bat at Tigers pitcher, Bert Cole. Players, fans and police erupted in a fight. Half-hour later, umpires are unable to clear the field and forfeited the game to New York, 10-6.
In 1948, Number 3 is retired at Yankee Stadium in honor of Babe Ruth. Ruth was in attendance along with several members of the 1923 Yankees team and nearly 50,000 fans.
