Zumbrota Auto Dealership Changing Hands

2 years ago, Steve Johnson, from Zumbrota Ford, opened a second dealership, Zumbrota Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram. It's been a beautiful bouncing baby dealership, and 24 months later, it's being sold to Bismark, ND based Eide Automotive.

I got in touch with Steve to find out more. (FYI - Steve Johnson is a client of Townsquare Media - Rochester)

JAMES RABE: Why now?

STEVE JOHNSON: I  have been selling FORD for 48 years, it's in my blood. 2 stores does not make one twice as happy. I love my customers and I love being in ONE spot so I can see them, thank them, and be accessible to them. I want to go back to ONE store.

JR - What can you tell me about the new owners?

SJ - I have know the Peterson / Eide family for 30 plus years. I have known Jesse since he was a youngster and his Dad was a fellow Ford dealer and friend of mine for a long time. Jesse is 3rd generation car dealer. His partner, Moneer is a personable, true success story. He will be the managing partner. They are good people who will be honest and fair competitors.

JR - Are you thinking about selling Zumbrota Ford, too?

SJ - All I ever aspired to be was a small town Ford dealer. This is my dream. I am NOT selling Zumbrota Ford and my daughters, Kristin and Kelly will take over for me when my mileage runs out! They are active in our business and want to continue here forever. I also have 2 grandchildren who work in the business part time.

Eide Automotive has dealerships in Bismarck and Grand Forks, ND, and Pine City, MN. The sale is expected to go thru in September.
