Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Blizzard conditions are being reported in the northwest part of Minnesota and a winter storm is slowly moving southward across the state.

 

 

 

Snow and winds gusting to 50 mph are creating whiteout conditions and no travel is recommended.

Nearly the entire state has been placed under blizzard or winter storm warnings that will continue into Wednesday evening.

Temperatures have already dropped into the single digits in NW Minnesota and will fall to as low as 15-below later tonight.

Blizzard conditions are also expected in parts of SE Minnesota Wednesday evening. Snow will combine with strong winds to create whiteout conditions in some areas.

Snowfall totals across SE Minnesota are expected to be in the 1 - 4 inch range. Totals of 6 - 8 inches are possible in areas that include Red Wing and the Twin Cities.

Rochester set a temperature record Wednesday morning when it reached 45 degrees at the city airport. The previous record of 43 was set in 1936.

Rochester is expected to experience its first below-zero weather of the season Thursday morning and highs are only expected to rise into the single digits.
