Why I Think Preston Is Practically Perfect

April 14, 1997, nineteen years ago, I rolled into Preston with all of my worldly belongings in a U-Haul, towing my car that lost its brakes somewhere in Illinois.  Moving to small-town Minnesota from a fairly large city, for a while I was in "culture shock"! Forty-five minutes to Wal-Mart???!!!!  But it didn't take long for me to realize that Preston is a wonderful place.  My reasons?

Health care.  Not only are we home to an Olmsted Medical Center Office, but also Preston Eye Clinic, Arndt Chiropractic, Fillmore County Physical Therapy, Fit Express, Weber and Judd Pharmacy, and Serenity Within Massage.  For your furry family members, Root River Vet Center.  Stay healthy in Preston!

Small businesses where we can shop local.  Don't make the trip to Rochester!  Shop our great stores for fresh fruit, flowers, groceries, convenience items and gas, gently used clothing, hardware, automotive and fishing supplies.  Just about everything you need!  Have custom Tees made at Kelly Printing and Signs!

Service.  Preston has three automotive repair shops Preston Service Plus, Bauer Built Tire and McCabe Repair; several home improvement contractors for everything from a pipe leaking, flooring, to electrical work, construction companies, F&M Community Bank, Preston Public Utilities,  two local newspapers, a very nice post office, several hair/beauty salons, restaurants for your dining pleasure, hotels for visiting guests, two parks, swimming pool, tennis courts, bike trail, Fillmore County Fairgrounds, and service organizations like Preston Servicemens Club and Preston Lions. Preston is the county seat, home to Fillmore County Government offices.  Oh, let's not forget KFIL and KVGO radio!

Finally, progress.  Yes, folks, that large dirt hole is progress!  It's the site of the new B&B Bowl and Restaurant - stay tuned for updates on that project.

I hope I didn't leave anyone out!  You get the idea.  Preston, while a small town, offers big services!  To me, Preston is pretty-darned perfect and looking back, I'm pleased I made the move!
