When You Say Minnesota, What Do Non-Minnesotans Think?
I called 11 people that don't live in Minnesota and I asked, "When I say Minnesota, what's the first thing you think?" The good news? They were honest. The bad news? Sometimes they were TOO honest.
There was one rule. They could not say, "Mayo Clinic." That was the rule after everyone was saying "Mayo Clinic." After the "first thing you think" was out of the way, some other stuff came up that was pretty nice to hear.
- "You have a beautiful state. Seriously, from north to south, just always something beautiful in front of you."
- "You all kicked a** in voter turnout!"
- "You told us NOT to say Mayo Clinic because that's what we'd all say, but James...that's an amazing thing about Minnesota. You have the freakin' Mayo Clinic! Everyone in Rochester there is a part of saving lives even if they don't work there."
Things I was surprised I didn't hear?
- Winona Ryder
- Biggest Ball of Twine In Minnesota
- Paul Bunyon
- The Twins, The Wild, The Timberwolves (Though, honestly, these were kind of represented in #3 below).
