You Better Stop Running In the Rochester Art Center!
Stop Running At the Rochester Art Center
Where do you expect to find art? Mostly in some sort of exhibit area, right? Like the Rochester Art Center (RAC) galleries, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona, or maybe the Walker in the MSP.
How about in an elevator? Or in a little nook where you decided to sit down and rest a bit? The answer there is probably no, but, starting May 14th, 2022, those are the kinds of places you'll find RAC's newest exhibition. And if you run, you'll miss them.
Walk With Us At the Rochester Art Center, Rochester, MN
Walk With Us (May 14 - October 3, 2022) is an international, juried exhibition of walking-based art presented in the non-gallery spaces of the Rochester Art Center. (source)
16 artists, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and other US cities, as well as from international locals such as Greece, Mexico, and Sweden, have been selected from a pool of 87 applicants all of whom presented work to help us see and understand different ideas while honoring walking.
This Exhibit Makes You Part of the Art
Imagine for a moment you're looking at a painting of Washington Crossing the Delaware. Instead of just looking at it, what if you could get in the boat and feel the weather, smell the smells, and hear the oars. It would change your perception of the painting drastically.
Down to your toes, you would never look at that image, or even just the idea of the image, the same way again. That's kind of what's happening with Walk With Us. You become part of the exhibit as you take the map and explore the works.

Special Event the Rochester Art Center Doesn't Know About
This isn't an official RAC event related to Walk With Us, however, if you visit the exhibit on June 19th, I recommend you slow your pace to that of a saunter, as it is World Sauntering Day. If you're not sure how to saunter, this video is a quick and easy-to-follow tutorial.

One of SE Minnesota's favorite places to get away is Duluth...
If you'd like to live in Duluth, this home is on the market, though I doubt the artwork comes with the home.
